The last question of the online survey asked respondents, "What does music mean to you? Here are a few of their answers:

'EVERYTHING'

'A beautiful way to express myself'

"It's the most amazing thing in the world, it brings people together, it takes us back in time, it makes us feel alive."

"A powerful mix of sounds and words that create feelings and emotions."

'MUSIC MEANS EXPRESSION'

"It is a way to understand my emotions when I cannot find the right words."

"It’s a way to cause or amplify feelings. It means a peaceful sleep, productive work afternoon, successfully workout and excuse to lie in bed focused on nothing but my heart."

"Music is a way in which people communicate feelings and thoughts. It's a way of finding pleasure in one of the human senses: hearing. This is also related to the basic joy over music, which implies dancing, singing or just appreciating music without paying attention to the lyrics. Finally, it can be a mechanism to connect with your feelings, either if you are already feeling them or looking forward to feeling them.

"company"

"LIFE"

"entertainment"

Music speaks through me. My mind brings up music I want to listen showing how I’m feeling inside, sometimes not knowing but starting to understand what’s going on when listening to the music I want to hear in that moment. It’s me speaking to myself in a different way.

'MEMORIES'

"a component of life that forms an essential part of your memories and emotions.  "

"My life, it can change a whole ambiance, a setting, feelings, and perception. It is what amplifies the auditory sense, music doesn’t have any rules. It helps transmit any message."

It's a mean to reach specific emotions and states of mind. In a way a prescription medicine for well being.

"An escape"

"A way of telling my story, and a way of powering through it when times get hard. Soundtrack to my life!

"Union, collectiveness, uniqueness."
